Going to War
Bill graduated from South Gate High in 1941 and shortly after, enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. Before he shipped off to the European theatre, he had dinner with six high school friends. He took a dollar bill out of his wallet, tore it into seven pieces, and each man took a part with him to various theaters of the war.
William was attached to the 385th Bomb Group and served as Supply Sergeant at Great Ashfield Airbase in Great Britain. He diligently performed his duties of keeping the B-17 crews properly equipped in their offensive actions against the Axis powers.
